Types of Roofing

Wood
Wood roofs provide a sophisticated, natural look that only grows more beautiful with age. The wide variety of grains, colors and textures allows for a unique roofing material that enhances any building. If properly installed and maintained, this highly sustainable material has a performance expectancy of 30-40 years. Wood is also energy-efficient because it provides natural insulation to your building, keeping it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

EPDM
EPDM has a long-established reputation as a superior performance option for low-slope roofs. Its dark surfaces retain heat for more efficient energy usage in colder weather. This material is popular for roofs with solar panels because the dark materials do not interfere with sunlight absorption. The resilient synthetic rubber is highly resistant to fire, weathering, hail, ozone damage and wind. This roofing option is the most cost-effective for both materials and installation, and it has an average life expectancy of 30 years.

Metal
With a variety of styles and colors, metal is a stylish roofing option for any home or neighborhood. It has an extremely long performance life of 50 years. Its interlocking panels provide maximum wind resistance. It is naturally fire resistant, and its low material weight helps preserve the structural integrity and life of your building. The reflective surfaces will also keep your energy bill lower by reflecting the sunlight during hot summer months. Despite the common misconception, metal roofs are not loud in the rain.

Modified Bitumen
One of the strongest, most commonly used low-slope commercial roofing materials, modified bitumen is versatile and durable. It can be layered to add greater durability and elementary resistance, and it’s easy to patch in the event of any wear. It withstands harsh environmental conditions including water and UV light damage, and thermally expands and contracts to maintain its waterproofness and puncture resistance. It is also extremely tear resistant, making it ideal for high trafficked surfaces such as roof-top cafes. Its proven history and longevity of 20 years makes it a popular choice for commercial buildings.

TPO
TPO stands for thermoplastic polyolefin, a single-ply roofing membrane that covers the surface of the roof. This material is popular for commercial buildings because it’s lightweight, easy to install, and inexpensive. The flexible membrane makes it able to withstand punctures and tears from branches and flying debris. Its smooth surface resists buildup of dirt and debris. The seams are welded to make it completely waterproof with no seams to peel back or leak. The lighter surface color reflect sunlight for more energy efficient cooling.

LeafTek Covered Gutters
Low maintenance makes upgrading to covered gutters an easy choice. LeafTek’s unique design allows rainwater from even the heaviest storms to pass through into your gutters, while stopping leaves and other debris from clogging your system. LeafTek’s raised vent ridge design directs air flow downward, creating air circulation through your gutter system. This very important feature promotes dry gutters, discouraging mosquito and other pest breeding. These gutters are made with heavy gauge aluminum that will not rust or deteriorate. The gutter system is completely covered, eliminating bird, insect and squirrel nests. Cleaning your gutters is no longer such a chore as dry leaves and debris blow off with a slight breeze.

Ridge Vent
Ridge venting is known to be the most efficient and cost-effective roof ventilation system around. This superior ventilation provides additional protection against the common problems that accompany poor ventilation. Attics become like furnaces in the summer time if they are not properly ventilated. If air is not being drawn into and exhausted out of the roofing structure, excess heat and moisture can build up in the attic and lead to premature aging of your roof, moisture build-up and mold. Not only is ridge venting efficient and effective, it is very aesthetically pleasing. Its low-profile seamlessly blends in with the rest of the roof, making it nearly invisible from the ground, leaving your roof look clean cut and seamless.

VELUX Fixed Skylights
Because skylights interrupt and penetrate the surface of a roof, they are particularly prone to leaking. In fact, they are one of the main points of failure in your roof. Improper installation and insulation or problems with the roof sealing or flashing will all cause a skylight to leak. Water flows down the roof, collects at the top of the skylight, builds up, and eventually finds a place around the edges where it can come dribbling inside. Modern skylights are less prone to leaks so replacing your skylight at the same time as your roof will ensure proper installation and help you skylight last as long as your roof.

Gutters
While you are replacing your roof, it is a good time to replace your gutters as well – especially if they are unsightly and misaligned. Gutters are an incredibly important part of your roof. Without a gutter system to divert water away from your home, rainwater can collect in your roof, causing rot, deterioration or mold. This will weaken your shingles, soffit, and fascia. Investing in gutters can help avoid extensive and expensive water damage. Gutters protect the foundation of your home, preventing pooling water that can cause problems. Flooding and basement seepage can be avoided. Landscaping and turf is protected by preventing erosion. Settling and cracking of sidewalks, patios and driveways can also be lessened by reducing erosion.

Exposed "W" Valley Metal
Exposed metal valleys provide great performance, especially when it comes to shedding snow and avoiding debris build-up in your roof’s valleys, especially on roofs with lower slopes. By keeping water flowing freely down the valleys, it is less likely to accumulate and back up under your shingles. Exposed valley metal is aesthetically pleasing by defining each roof plane – making your roof “pop”. Valley metal can be installed to match the roof shingles or in a different color to add contrast. Exposed valley metal ages well with the roof and will stand the test of time.

"D-Style" Drip Edge
Shingles are required to overhang a house’s fascia by 1″. G-Style drip edge runs flush with the fascia, protecting your fascia from water damage but providing no support for the overlapping shingles. The edges of your roof tend to droop because of lack of support, especially during the summer months. D-Style drip edge is shaped like a “T” with a lower flange at the bottom. This shape’s built-in support system keeps the edges of your roof looking sharp and clean. Drip edge comes in several different colors so you can match your existing trim or create a contrast that makes your roof line really stand out.
