When Is It Time to Have Your Roof Replaced?

There are several key signs that indicate a roof replacement is needed. These include:
  • Bucking and curling shingles: Warping shingles occur when moisture in the attic causes nails to push out of place. As a result, the loosened shingles’ performance are compromised and the roof is exposed to the elements, which can result in leaks and even more moisture damage.
  • Missing shingles: Shingles come loose with age or can blow away in the wind. Missing shingles can allow water into the home, causing expensive water damages.
  • Missing granules: Asphalt roofing shingles are made up of small granules. Granule loss is a normal part of wear and tear. However, when a large amount of these granules come loose due to age or weather-impact, it can impact the shingles’ performance. You can locate missing granulates by looking for fragments in the gutter system. If too many granules are lost, shingles will have an exposed asphalt layer, commonly referred as “bald” shingles.
  • Mold in the attic: This is one of the most concerning aspects of roof replacement because of potential health impacts. Caused by leaks, condensation or improper ventilation, mold forms in areas such as the rafter beams and the plywood on the underside of the roof.
  • Algae growth: Overhanging branches, clogged gutters, standing water, a porous roofing material and poor roof ventilation can all cause algae to grow on a roof. The bacteria from the blue-green algae eats through shingles, especially if they are low-cost shingles that are made primarily of limestone.

I recently had my roof and gutters replaced by Apex Roofing, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the entire experience. From start to finish, the process was smooth and professional. The quality of work on both the roof and gutters is … More exceptional, and everything was completed efficiently and with great attention to detail.A special shoutout to Bryan, the representative who guided us through the process. He was incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and made sure all our questions were answered. His professionalism and dedication made a big difference.

Apex did a great job on our barn roof! Buel was extremely helpful with navigating an insurance claim, and the crew was so fast! We will use them again if we need roof repairs!

Our experience with Apex roofing was great. After having signed with another contractor and waiting almost a year for them to get our project scheduled, we decided to switch to Apex.Fall was setting in and we wanted our roof done before … More the cold weather. Jeff, at Apex, was the supervisor/salesman for our project and was there from start to finish. He did a great job with communicating with us and dealing with things as they came up. Jeff was able to put together a crew and get started within a couple of weeks. All the guys were hard working and kept the work area clean at night. Thanks Jeff for your help and understanding our situation.

We are very happy with our new roof. Bryan the project manager was great to work with. He answered all our questions and located houses they had already been done so we could see the exact color of the roof instead of just looking at the … More brochure. I shopped around and felt they were offering a fair price for a high quality shingle. Can’t beat the 50 year warranty included 25 years of labor. The crews were efficient and cleaned up their mess each day. Overall we are pleased with the experience. Would definitely recommend working with Bryan if you think a new roof is in your future!
